One Lucky Encounter
by Hana
Well, tough luck. The beaded necklace that had been sitting
on a small delicate decorated box on the antiques store had
been sold. On her birthday to boot! Serena sigh wistfully and
regreted not buying the item a few weeks ago. She could have
wrapped it up nicely and placed it under her pillow the day
before her important day and pretended it to be a gift from an
angel or a fairy just flying by.
It's bad enough that her dad would not be able to celebrate
his daughter's
birthday. It was really no excuse but after her
mum had went to a place far beyond anyone could reach before their time, her dad was the only breadwinner in the family. During
her years growing up, her dad had tried to fill a void in her heart
that with only a mother's love could complete it. Serena adored
her father and hope that he could find at least someone that he
could share his life with. That is her biggest wish.
Sighing one last time, Serena walked away from the store and
was heading
towards the arcade to at least enjoy her remaining day. As she was about to make her way, she saw a couple next
to a lamp post talking loudly. She would not want to eavesdrop
so Serena brisk walked her way around the couple and was about
to make her run but the man's voice stop her.
"So you're going to dump me just like that?" snapped the man.
"I'm sorry Lucifer but I just love someone else. Someone meant for
me. A person
who will make my life easy when I grow old," explained the woman.
Serena stopped dead on her tracks. Lucifer? Her childhood
friend? The one
she grew up with? Who cruelly rejected her innocent-teenage love and passed it on as a fool's crush? She
felt her blood boil at the memories of that day. A day when she
was at a ripe age of eighteen and he twenty-three. He was her
neighbour at one time and she was often bullied by others because
of her strange eye colour and stammerings. Lucifer was the only
person who stood up for her. At that moment, she knew she
had fallen - hard - thinking that he was a knight in shining armor,
but fortunately, now he looked like a knight that had fallen and
been kicked by his noble steed.
"Someone as old as Johnny Kit? He is thirty years older than you
and had five kids
for petes sake!" Lucifer shouted aloud.
"I don't care about that. And don't you dare shout at me, Lucifer
Devon."
At that moment, Serena realised that the woman is Sarah, the
short but angelic
framed woman. She looked the same as when they were younger. During that time, whenever Lucifer and Serena
were together, his eyes were always roaming around searching
for a glimpse of Sarah to fill his lonely days. Even though I'm
always with him, he always says he's lonely, thought Serena, grimly.
How many years had it been since she was rejected without any
hesitation? Six years.
Serena turned around slowly just in time to watch Sarah giving
Lucifer a tight slap
across his face. She'd always wanted to do that at one time but was to weak to even say anything to him but run.
Run as fast as her legs could take her.
